Exactly. Think of the 997 as the green "Certified Receipt" that you can request from the post office. It does not guarantee that they READ your document, or APPROVE your document. Only that they received the document and it was/was-not damaged.
An 855 is an actual response to the information contained within. IE, we have received your EDI document, it passes syntax checking and it has been processed through the translator. The 855 is a business acknowledgement; it means that we accept the terms of the PO and (generally) that we are contractually obligated to fulfill its terms. They are two different transactions, with two different purposes. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of saffinn Sent: Thursday, September 21, 2006 10:56 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [EDI-L] 855 Vs 997 Hi all, I have a clarification to be made regarding the 855. When 855 is an Acknowledgement to PO(850), we can as well go for Functional Ack (997). considering the fact that we want to implement 855 which is a time and cost factor as compared to 997. why is that the clients still go for 855?? does 997 not satisfy their requirment?? any specific advantages of 855 over 997? Please let me know. Thanks in Advance, regards, sahil. ...
