The original poster was talking about a system running on AS/400, not a small EDI system. Access to an AS/400 would be greater than a small system and should be able to be managed remotely. I do that today for clients.

And I know just about every detail about everything we have. The software techs that remotely connect to our warehousing system can get a few things done by themselves, but if there wasn't someone here to work with them - they wouldn't make any progress at all. IMHO it works out to be something that can sound good on paper but blows in real life. My suggestion would be to accept that "you can't get back the investment", (a mistake was made) and move on. If in fact all this conjecture actually mirrors the original poster's scenario. I'd be a bit upset if I was paying paying another company to handle my edi, and I found out I still have to keep all my software in use and all those people in place to keep it functioning. -----Original Message----- From: krishna kumar [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] co.in] Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2006 10:19 PM To: Travis Truax; kakcrawford; [EMAIL PROTECTED] com Subject: Re: [EDI-L] EDI Outsourcing Hi Travis, Can you please explain why you have that perception "after certain period of time we have to throw away GIS" Is there any specific reason for that? I currently develop and maintain the EDI setup (GIS on iSeries) in-house; conversion to GIS was completed this year. I have approximately 50 trading partners, who dictate the inbound/outbound document formats they send/receive. I would appreciate suggestions for doing a quick study to determine whether this is a feasible option for my company. I am looking for outsourcing options, outsourcing companies, cost ranges, lessons learned (what to look out for), etc. Thanks, Karla ...
