We've done this before ... so you can search the archives for an answer. The short version: most companies have a large investment in X12 edi transmissions. Some are trying to minimize their costs with AS2, but the data format remains X12. It's a universally written and read format. At least within the wholesale/distribution sector. Some ERP systems create xml (such as Arriba), but that is more for their convenience rather than to conform to standards.
