Actually, Jonathan's answer, while curt, was right on. Spelling and grammar are two extremely important issues. If I receive a job application, resume, or cover letter with bad grammar, I am far less likely to consider the applicant for a position that requires communication skills, such as an EDI position.
Spelling is easy today, just press F7. The occasional incorrect word usage (eg: their, there, they're) is distressing, but less so than rampant bad grammar. EDI isn't about spelling, grammar and word usage. It's about clearly and unambiguously communicating between automated systems, but to achieve this, the people in the cubicles on each end of the wire must be able to communicate clearly and unambiguously as well. And therefore, the spelling and grammar, etc. become important. A word about immigrants. I work and live in the USA, where the workforce includes many immigrants. Many of these, including those from the largest English speaking country in the world, have difficulty speaking and/or writing English clearly. But they are all God's children, and our neighbors, and probably one day, our bosses. So as long as they are here among us, let's do our best to help them succeed. To do otherwise would be to be unprofessional. Hi Art. Fabulous advise and very well presented. Jonathan - Why is it when people ask for help here your responses are always nasty? Why are you signed on to this kind of forum if your only going to scrutinize when someone asks for some advise? Lighten up or don't bother responding as your energy is very discouraging to those who are new to EDI and just need a bit of help? Is your reasoning for being discouraging for your own job security???? Give it up already Art Douglas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Vaasmrv, My suggestion to you is to concentrate on making a great impression of yourself as a person, and to let the interviewer know you have completed training, with whatever certification you have earned. Most interviewers will take into consideration that you are new and inexperienced in the real world of EDI. But if they think you are enthusiastic (not over-the-top), engaging, serious with a sense of humor, able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, they may give you a try. One big no-no. This is not an internet chat room, and neither is your interview. Loose the chat-room abbreviations, and use capital letters where appropriate plz. LOL. OMG, I wouldn't hire u f u use these. Make it your practice to use complete sentences expressing complete thoughts from now on when writing in a professional setting. You want to be a professional. Act like one. Good luck! TO THE GROUP: This is the kind of newbie email I respect.
