I would expect that person to have a background in EDI and be able to explain to a lay person (business person) the terms: Business Process Management, Service Oriented Architecture, and Event-Driven Processing. I would also expect that person to be able to intelligently talk about what constitutes an agile organization with respect to the supply chain. What I would be awful leery about is a focus on products or education or training. You need someone who can look at what is, what can be, and the best way to get there. And the only way to do that is to have a little chat with him/her. There are very, very few people who would have the depth of technical knowledge, the depth of business knowledge, the familiarity with products/tools currently available, the experience to know what needs to be built and how, and the native intelligence to tie it all together. If you were hiring someone to study your supply chain needs and come up with system processes to implement, what bacground would you expect that person to have? Give me names of methodologies, etc that you would expect this person to know. Thanks kindly in advance. Contact me on or off list.
