JAMA EDIFACT bears only a passing resemblance to actual EDIFACT. Only the
segments are the same, all other data has been changed to protect the guilty.

Basically, JAMA EDIFACT is a flat file wedged into segments and elements. You
will need to carefully review the documentation provided by your Japanese
partner to understand and interpret the data, it will save you a lot of hair
pulling if you just think of it as a flat file with pesky little extras thrown
in.

Good Luck,
Leah

Hi Anne,

EDIFACT is the most common standard in the UK.

For Japan \ it is a bit more complicated;

EDIFACT is used by larger companies / importers and exporters for
international EDI communications. Smaller firms don't normally support
EDIFACT.

Locally Zengen or CII is much more common. These are Japan specific
double byte formats not widely supported outside Japan.

If you are in Automotive there is also JAMA EDIFACT which is a localized
version to support both international EDIFACT plus local double byte
requirements.

Best Regards,

James Hatcher
