Hi Anne,

I would agree with Dawn, flat file is more common than XML for now.
Lot's of legacy systems out there. You'll see more UK companies using
XML than in Japan.

For smaller companies it's usually Excel attached to email...

I don't know of any definitive resources, you might try the UK and Japan
logistics associations for help.

Best Regards,

James

Thanks James for the feedback!! It is much appreciated. Have you found
XML not
used in UK & Japan? What else is used for smaller Companies in UK & JP?
The industry is logistics & freight forwarding & rail too...
Are there any places I can read up on this?

Thanks,
Anne

Hi Anne,

EDIFACT is the most common standard in the UK.

For Japan \ it is a bit more complicated;

EDIFACT is used by larger companies / importers and exporters for
international EDI communications. Smaller firms don't normally support
EDIFACT.

Locally Zengen or CII is much more common. These are Japan specific
double byte formats not widely supported outside Japan.

If you are in Automotive there is also JAMA EDIFACT which is a localized
version to support both international EDIFACT plus local double byte
requirements.

Best Regards,

James Hatcher
