Well, XML is EDI however with a lot of needless bandwidth requirements, so it 
is 
an inefficient EDI model.

There are probably hundreds of trade associations with IG's. ATA (both
trucking, American Trucking Associations, and Air, Air Transport
Association), AAR (Rail), Ocean (ISA) CIDX, PIDX, WINS, BISG, to name a few
more.......

As for the definition of EDI, I'll stick with .....

EDI is the computer to computer exchange of machine processable data in a
pre-defined format.

And of course, XML is EDI.
