Nice analysis. I'm in the flat file camp too and I was asking myself if there were legitimate reasons for that. Now I remember, there are. When I use XML its because I have to for one reason or another. I've not yet ever found a reason to deliberately switch from flat file to XML. Its probably why companies with mature EDI systems haven't chucked it all in for XML instead. Why fix what isn't broken?
