Ah, but I'd imagine a disproportionately large number of the unemployed may
hang
out in pubs, "drowning their sorrows" as the phrase goes. Just like going to
the movies in the daytime.

I would hope that the numbers would be significantly better than 7 out of 10.

7 of 10 would represent 30% unemployment. Considering that all the staff are
employed, underage youth are usually not allowed in pubs and most retired
people don't drink after business hours, 30% would be very high.

I fairly agree with this statement, this is exactly what a lot of small to
medium size American business owners were/are concerned in terms of how the
bailout will help jumpstart their sales. The underlying problem is not the
money, but demand for their services. Now you have received numerous potential
job oppurtunities, which may not be a reliable sign of improvement, but you
head to a pub on Friday night and if 7 out of 10 people you talk to has a job,
then thats one. This is how I'll measure it :-)

I have held the opinion for a while that corporations are sitting on money to
see what the economy does, and that there is and will be a pent-up demand for
services once they start loosening the purse strings. Now that I believe we
are starting to finally see some signs of life, the purse strings are loosening
up!
