I don't 'contract' any more (I will if I get hungry, though).
I 'develop' and 'consult' - which includes specifications development.. and
I only develop within my industries, industries where I spent about fifteen
years AS A USER.
If there is one problem I have seen with independent developers, it is they
accept contracts when they lack sufficient understanding of the client's
industry and/or 'common business practices' of that industry.
When you deal with business people, they tend to assume you know and
understand these things . and we all know where "assuming" anything
leads....
