Delay?  Oh, no, this 5010 rolls on 1/1/2012.  Some of us have given our lives
for the last year to get this ready and we're more
than tired of it.  I hear that the next HIPAA version is going to be 6020 - I
hope to be retired before that sees the light of day.  Y2K

was a project that absolutely, positively had to be done on time and this one
should be as slip-proof.  Between clients crying for the last two years that
they had to have documents, some that had to GO LIVE a year early, and some
that had to have documents that weren't even
real (837R, 999) ...

I know you mean well David, but please don't suggest to anyone that there can
be slippage.  The life you save might be a consultant
with a wife, kids and several mortgages.

The one thing CMS is good at is delaying mandates.  The main reason for 5010 is
ICD-10 which hospitals are realizing the heavy cost of converting.  What is
seldom mentioned is that ICD-11 will be published by 2015 so it might not make
sense to wait until 2015 and convert with the rest of the world to ICD-11.  The
American Hospital Assoc (AHA) is quietly lobbying for delays and has been
mentioned the various state Medicaids do not have the funding to do any of this.

Michael, I too completely respect your skills and knowledge. Most often you and
I are on the same page on various issues.

Re the v4010 to v5010 transition for HIPAA admin transactions, in general (I
know that generalizing is a pitfall) the structural changes of the transactions
are not major). What is major is the data content requirements, the tightening
up of situational notes. This of course, is where the major impact is to health
plans/payers – getting their internal systems to source the required data.

I've known Ms. Foerster for a long time and am quite familiar with her
skills. I was merely pointing out that for the one (1) document for which I
did do the comparison there were few changes of signficance

Ah... this explains much...... but does it always have to come down to your
envy of my Y-chromosome?
