Yes, it is an online catalog. You upload your UPC number (aka GTIN number), other related item info and give them lots of money. They allow your trading partners to download the product info into their databases. Mandatory for Walmart? No (I'm pretty sure). Expensive? Yes. Last time I looked at it, it was about $10.00 per item and then $10 per item per year. 1SYNC is one the the 'Data Pools' for UPC info. GS1 is the new organization which is making money from the UPC numbers... There are other Data Pools, including Inovis (previously known as QRS).
