I thought you'd also currently need to use svn too, since the repository is hosted on SF? Anyway, I don't think anyone's saying that existing workflows will have to change. Anyone who likes using current tools will still be able to, and since the ML is one of the best ways to archive discussions, I agree that if we introduce a web app it must send notifications to the list.
