Hello,

Without hesitation, I would recommend "Full House" by Stephen Jay Gould. This is an 
AMAZING read
about the importance of understanding the variance (in addition to measures of central 
tendency).
This is applied to models of evolution, but illustrated in many other wonderfully 
interesting
ways, too (e.g., cancer survival, baseball, etc.). I could not put it down.
