A couple of people have said this. It is not true at all tables. I've
played in Reno and Wendover, Nevada. Both places ties are 'pushes', money
doesn't change hands. Even on Blackjack, it is treated as a push, though
I've heard there are some places where on Blackjack the house wins.

True, but card counters abound. Last month's (April, 00) Discover
Magazine had an article on gambling and mentioned a newly developed card
counting strategy that you don't need to be a genius to execute
effectively. I have a buddy who has placed in a Vegas Blackjack
tournament. He counts cards, using his foot position to keep track of the
aces (very important, as they are needed for Blackjacks). There are no
casino cameras to monitor your foot position (yet) so that you can get
away with it.
In that Discover article, they pointed out that there are a few video
Poker machines which give favorable odds. They describe a couple who make
a very nice living seeking out video Poker machines which pay off well.
Turns out these machines don't all have the same pay offs. Some pay off
overly high for some rare hands. So, you seek these machines and play for
those rare hands. Sometimes thousands of dollars before it finally gives
that hand which returns your 'investment' with profit.
