Hi, which dictionary did you looked at?

The Microsoft Bookshelf Basics Dictionary says:
1. To support with proof or evidence; verify: substantiate an
accusation.
See synonyms at confirm.
2. a. To give material form to; embody.
   b. To make firm or solid.
3. To give substance to; make real or actual.

The Merriam-Webster's online collegiate dictionary at
www.m-w.com
says:
1: to give substance or form to : EMBODY
2 : to establish by proof or competent evidence : VERIFY
<substantiate a charge>

The Merriam-Webster's online collegiate thesaurus says:
1
Synonyms EMBODY 1, exteriorize, externalize, incarnate, manifest,
materialize, objectify, personalize, personify, personize
Related Word substantialize, substantify
2
Synonyms CONFIRM 2, authenticate, bear out, corroborate, justify,
validate, verify
Related Word demonstrate, prove, test, try

Both dictionaries say the same thing; if you're the manufacturer,
how do you tell that your car is the best? How do you substantiate
your claim?
