Thank you, Robert; I couldn't agree more.  My understanding is that the
purpose of a dissertation is for the student to demonstrate his/her ability
to formulate an original research question, decide and execute on
appropriate methodology and analyses, and effectively communicate research
findings.  Perhaps others on the list feel this way as well, which could
explain the relatively few responses to George's query.

Guess I'm old-fashioned as well.

Just a quick two-cents worth.

Why is it that we often see this type of request for help?  How is it that a

student can get this far without receiviving proper help from his/her 
dissertation committe and/or from the statistics department of the school?

I can't believe that a school can let a student simply go out and collect 
data without the student fully knowing what specific analysis is to be 
applied and for what reason.

Any comments or am I old-fashioned?
