Even if we know that an effect is not absolutely zero, p-values are one report on the strength of the evidence.

yes, silly me BUT, i respectfully disagree


for the above statement you are suggesting that the p value gives you information on the "strength" of evidence for the possible fact that the effect is NOT absolutely 0 ... that is, support for a NON null

sure, if the p gets lower and lower and, this bolsters our case that the null is NOT true, the implication from that is that some OTHER value ... other than the null IS true but ... since we have no idea what MAY be the case ... this p has not really helped us know anything of value ... we knew that in the first place

again, i repeat, p values are rather useless
