A robust desktop-control system would be fantastic. When the options
are there many students can't help but waste time playing around. Yes
perfect classroom managment and student self motivation would make these
features unnecessary. I, and I suspect many others, are far from
perfect in monitoring every student. Being able to block access to
features and programs, especially if it could be switched on/off in real
time, would be awesome. I might go so far as a "totally awesome."
If it would be helpful I would be happy to explain in better depth what
an ideal system would look like.

B.) I think the more important issue to discuss is how 'desktop control'
will be implemented in the next release. Will the forthcoming 'Teacher
Tool' (aka "Teacher's Pet") allow teachers to configure the desktop
easily to reduce distraction? I.e. "clamping down"
* panels
* task bars
* desktop images ?
The initial spec [2] - which might be outdated! - mentions:
* Menu locking/editing per pupil or per group
I'd be interested in what other educators think about this...
