Actually, I do not have problems with a default window that is centered.
In an interactive session, it is really easy to move the window around,
while for a standalone application, this is not that plausible (while
the app is running). I feel I was wrong defending a corner default
position. Now I am convinced center-window admirer :-) 

Just for the record, on a Windows XP the window can be moved and
resized. Resizing the window does not move the origin to the center of
the new window. I assume it is not intended to.
