If logging is enabled there should be entries if advertising sites are forbidden and you visit e.g. ad.doubleclick.net. If there are no entries you should increase the log level in /etc/dansguardian/dansguardian.conf.tmpl and restart dansguardian with /usr/local/bin/restartdansguardian. Then there you should see any errors.
