Yes, that's true. > Endian's business model is similar to RHES and SLES. if you need > updates , subscribe, and maybe with more subscriptions they can > increase > their development staff. There are alternative business models around that include updates, have a look at www.vyata.com - that has a free version that has an update repository available. The aim is to sell a value added product to your enterprise customers, I'd suggest. It seems rather short sighted to me to limit the ability of the Open Source version to get updates. I like EFW, that's why I use it but the fact the current 2.3 release is way overdue and no communication about the delays might lead one to surmise that there's problems with the product. > Lee > > PS: > http://www.endian.com/en/support/maintenance/ > [ Just as importantly, Endian maintenance includes all security > updates > to every Endian application so that you can keep the devices > protecting > your network safe from security vulnerabilities. ] Yes, that's true but it doesn't apply to the Community version. Isn't the aim of a mixed OSS and Value Added product to encourage the take-up of the product and an active developer community? Both of those seem to be lacking for EFW, a few people post updates to the product but it's a tortuous process for a novice like me. With a few notable exceptions, where is the community involvement in the project? Have a look at the Italian mailing list, they get even less responses than the English speaking one.
