If you don't set it to transparent, you have to manually set up the client (such as IE) to use the proxy server. That is located in:
Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > Lan settings button. I would disable Automatically detect settings, since this slows IE down when opening. And enable Use a proxy server for you Lan.... Enter the address of your efw and port 8080, and enable Bypass proxy server for local addresses...
