Soni,
There is a wide variety of published information on Web enabling CICS
applications, I'd recommend "Revealed! Architecting Web Access to CICS" , which
is an IBM Redbook (i.e. a tutorial) which you can order from
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/ the publication number is SG24-5466-00
There are numerous customer references for such implementations - for detailed
information contact your local IBM representative but you can find some general
web enabling case studies by indexing off http://www.ibm.com/software/ts/cics/ -
given the configuration that you have describe I'd suggest you look at the ones
which refer to the CICS Transaction Gateway which provides the servlet
integration that you are looking for.
I'm a little perplexed as to why you have posted such a general web enabling
query to an EJB forum - you mention of Webshere on the middle tier, what is the
intended implementation here ? servlets ? Java bean based connectors or EJB's ?
You may also have heard that CICS will shortly provide an EJB container which
will allow direct integration of CICS applications and resources with Webshpere
Enterprise Edition and will be fully supported by the Visual Age for Java
tooling, if the strategic direction of your customer is toward a CICS/EJB
configuration, mail me with the details and we can explore the what the best
road map for you client would be.
WRT MQSI (I assume you mean MQ Series Integrator )- I know of a small number of
extremely good CICS-MQ web enabling customer implementations but that discussion
is far wide of the discussion on this forum so we can explore that off line if
you like.

Subject: Web Enabling CICS through WEBSPHERE
Hello All,
One of our clients is looking for a web-enabled solution for his mainframe
based CICS screens using WebSphere. The idea is as follows:
a. M/F backend is DB2
b. The middle tier can be a UNIX/SOLARIS platform which will host the
websphere along with the web server (IIS/Apache).
c. The front end is going to be an NT client, possibly using servlets to
generate HTMLs/scripts to be thrown on the screens.
d. MQIS is going to be used as a communications middleware.
Our Questions:
1.We are looking for suggestions on possible best combinations for designing
the architecture for such a system.
2.We would be grateful if any of you could provide more info. about this in
the form of white papers/case studies.
3.Also, can anyone throw some light on the exact use of MQIS in the above
archiecture.
Thanks,
Soni.M
