On the same note, has anyone looked at the Transaction Internet Protocol
(TIP), a light weight 2PC protocol being proposed as an IETF
interoperability standard? TIP is supposed to coordinate the actions of
Transaction Managers on different platforms. Looks like Microsoft, IONA,
Compaq, Hitachi and other vendors are proposing it as a way to propagate
transactional context between Transaction Monitors transparently over the
web. It seems it supports remote XA transactions and the ability to tunnel
firewalls and perform light weight 2 Phase Commits. From what I have read
about it, it will be a layer under which all Transaction Managers will
plug-in to achieve remote heterogeneous 2PC commits. Hopefully it will be a
way to propagate Transactional information between EJB, CORBA and COM+
components and achieve 2PC while preserving data integrity across these
systems.

Gopalan.
