Hi
I have evaluated Weblogic 5.0 and found it to be good. I have just gone
through the documentation of IAS4.0 and found that as per the documentations
and claims go it should be good also. But when I downloaded the stuff I
found that it didnt have JMS in it as claimed in the documentation!!!
Weblogic has JMS support in built in it.
Also I wanted to know whether IAS provides any O/R mapping support tool --
weblogic dosent provide one. My management requires that we use CMP and we
dont bother ourselves with any database related issues. Something like we
just define the Entity beans in an object model and the server takes care of
creating the table and doing the persistence stuff --- such automation is
possible in Powertier --- I dont know of any other app serv which supports
such automation. Does IAS support such automation??
TIA
Anamitra

HI YAIR.

Below is a copy of a mail I have lready posted to a similar question. I can
assure you that if you investigate my claims you will thank me later. I have
no monetary gains from my endorsement, its just for once I like this
industry to choose the technically best solution over the one most marketed
even if the claims are all subtle lies. I will be posting such a subtle lie
shortly which I think will shock new comers to this newgroup. The lie
centers around ejb container -> ejb container support.

Hi Hai,

Since you starting out clean then I would advise you to start looking at a
container that is released and stable and is ejb 1.1 compliant. My personal
chocie would be Inprise Application Server 4.0. In invite you download both
Web Logic 5.0 and IAS 4.0 and then come back here after performing the
installation of both systems and test driving some simple examples and
deplying beans trhough the console. After this I think you will understand
my choice. If your still not convinced you should go to the Inprise
Application Server 4.0 FAQ and whitepapers and learn something about what
CORBA and EJB marriage has to offer over other implementations in terms of
scalability, fail over, and performance.

PS: Also check out the great JBuilder for Solaris product with its fine
deployment support. Then when you deploy make your IT Ops guys happy by
giving them Inprise AppCenter 4.0.
