I had a similar problem. In my case it was caused by plugging in the DSP module without the daughterboard that has the SMT parts on it. Somehow this confused the firmware.
Another thing to check is that your KAT100 is powered up along with or before the K2. I had some strange problems when I had the KAT100 connected to the K2 but not powered up.
