I sent this by mistake to Stan (W5EWA) when I meant to send it to the group.
Sorry, Stan! -----Original Message----- I seem to recall when I was a youngun and first getting interested in amateur radio that everybody knew Collins was the Cadillac of rigs. I've never owned or operated one, nor do I have any first-hand knowledge of their quality or how much they cost. I therefore obtained the following cost info off the web. It seems that the Collins 75S-3C receiver cost about $750.00 in 1967. According to an inflation calculator I found, that's the equivalent of about $4200.00 today, and it's only a receiver. Should it then be a big surprise that the IC-7800 with its two independent receivers (and transmitter) costs $10K+? <...ducks as those who think it heretical to even compare the two begin to foam at the mouth> De N3WZ - Jim > -----Original Message----- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:elecraft- > [EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Stan Rife > Sent: Monday, April 25, 2005 7:03 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: RE: [Elecraft] KPA800 @ $2.8k: count me in/out > > My idea of spendy IS 1500 bucks. 10,500 bucks for a radio is pure > H....
