When the bands are noisy (common with my vertical) I have to reduce the filter width to 0.7 to keep the noise level down when calling CQ. On occasions I have discovered later I have missed a return call just outside the passband.
I now find this works for me. I set up my 'CQ Callsign K' sequence in a memory. Set the filter to 0.7 and turn on the RIT. I recall the memory and hold for repeat with a gap of 6 seconds. In the gaps when I listen for the return calls I rotate the RIT from side to side and listen for return calls.
