On 11/11 Eric answered my question in my original post.  However it 
does not appear to me that turning off averaging will make the display 
look or act like the ProII display.  At the moment it appears that an 
average value of 5 is about right IF you use the finest tuning, 
(3.526.955) for a CW signal.  Since the P3 needs to recalculate the 
display average when the frequency is changed using coarse tuning and 
moving the VFO knob quickly to QSY makes the display jump very much.  I 
know they will get this sorted out.

One thing I did learn that I was doing wrong was to not "hold" the 
average button after making an adjustment but just "tap" it.  Holding it 
will turn off averaging. (When all else fails read the instruction book!)
