OK, seem to have solved the problem. The P3 XV Gain #1 setting was way wrong, in fact never set right. Also had to switch the P3 XV Invert #1 to inverted. So now appears that I can see the 2m spectrum with the P3. Just have to go get a signal generator to calibrate the display.
Alan and Gary from Elecraft kept suggesting what to do until I got it right.
