And, if you don't want to twiddle the main tuning knob during the QSO, be sure to let the rig warm up for 15 minutes or so first. Most people don't bother but simply adjust the main tuning (not the RIT) as needed during the warm-up period to keep the K2 on frequency.
If it seems to happen to you after your K2 is fully warmed up, suspect the OTHER station's transmitter is drifting. Most rigs move frequency a bit during the warm-up period. A good way to assess our K2's stability without exotic equipment is to tune in WWV at 10 MHz in CW mode, using SPOT to zero beat the carrier when the tones are not present. You can see how much drift occurs from cold start and check to see if it's stable after a warm-up period since WWV's frequency is very, very stable. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- Jason, The K2 specification for drift is less than 100 Hz from a cold start at 25 degC. 50 Hz is well within that specification. I would suggest you do the dial calibration procedure after the K2 has warmed up. I highly recommend the procedure on my website www.w3fpr.com - article on K2 Dial Calibration. I would suggest a 15 minute warm-up period is about right. 73, Don W3FPR On 12/27/2011 4:10 PM, Jason Morgan wrote: > Hello everyone... Because he was mobile I did not think that much about it. As we continued our conversation I found that when I turned on the RIT and listened on 7.218.95 he sounded "on freq" again. When I questioned him about it he told me that he thought I was off freq as well. I turned off the RIT and tuned to 7.218.95 and he told me that I was right on freq again. The drift was obvious and stopped exactly .05 down from where we started. I switched radios and we continued our conversation on 7.219.00. When I turned the K2 back on and transmitted with it the exact same thing happened as before. As the radio warmed up it drifted down .05. > > Any help you can offer would be appreciated. > > 73 > K4SHP > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
