FWIW -- I've never found the need for ANY high frequency pre-emphasis with my CM500s (I own two), nor with any of those I've helped local hams tweak on the air, but I've seen anecdotal reports from a FEW hams who used them who DID need it. I thus suspect that there may be tolerance variations in the response of the mic capsules used. High frequency pre-emphasis (boosting the top two bands) IS required when professional mics are used with any ham rig. An important rule with ANY boost EQ should be done VERY carefully, and with careful listening to the result. The reason is that boost EQ can cause a gain stage to be driven into clip when it otherwise might not be. The settings I generally recommend for ANY mic with a K3 are maximum cut in the two lowest bands, something between 6dB cut and full cut in the third band (200 Hz), and everything else set to zero, then have someone listen critically with their receive IF set very wide. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
