Allan, I installed the KV60 on my K2 (serial 5625) and the transverter feature is the item I use the most. I've used various other schemes with transverters over the years (modified exciters, dedicated IF transmitters and receivers, etc) and it really makes using transverters with the K2 seemless in comparison.
My current application uses the K2 with a homebrew 600m transverter on the ARRL 600m experimental license (WD2XSH/12). I was even able to set up the K2's frequency readout to display the actual RF frequency at 500 kHz. Exciter power levels are well managed and there is no wasted power at the K2 PA stages. I've been using the K2 in this manner day-in and day-out on WSPR mode for the past three years with no problems whatsoever. I can easily switch to normal HF operation without messing with level settings, cables and terminations. As with all of the K2 accessories and modifications I have installed over the years, the KV60 is well engineered and I'm really glad that I got one. 73 Mike AI8Z WD2XSH/12 -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, April 04, 2012 8:47 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [Elecraft] XV144 details I am about to jump into the world of transverters with the purchase of an XV144 to pair with my K2. The K2 is a very early S/N but has had 'most' of the updates. I would like to make the use of the transverter as painless as possible. So I checked out the 60m mod page on the Elecraft reflector. There seems to be much going on that doesn't really concern my primary interest (getting on 2m cw/ssb for mountaintopping/SOTA trips). Not that 60m coverage wouldn't be a good thing. So I ask, is the KV60 (?) the best way to go? There apprered a cascade of 'other' mods if I wanted to actually use 60m, etc. Some advice by someone who has been there, please!! Oh, I am currently using one of the transverter in/out port holes in the upper panel for a jack to charge the internal LiFePO4 battery pack installed a month ago. I could relocate the jack, but would really rather not. I do have the KIO2 installed.
