This shouldn't happen if you adjust the VFO knob height so the bottom of the knob is lightly touching the felt pad. I'm also looking at a firmware change that would prevent the occasional 1-tic drift due to physical asymmetry in the knob. Maintaining contact with the felt pad would then be less of an issue. > ....i removed all wires etc from the radio, and found that > there was a lot of noise. even my buddy, who has been a ham for many > years wondered what was happening. and what is happening. The KX3's receiver has a lot of gain and excellent sensitivity. You may simply have gains set at max, in which case you'll hear background receiver noise. Typically you don't need the preamp on 160-40 meters; if you turn it off, most of the noise should go away, and if you then connect an antenna, atmospheric noise should completely dominate. Let me know if you have further questions. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
