Mel,

That same supply should power your KX3 quite nicely.  You might even 
remove the series diodes if the supply voltage is no greater than 15 
volts (hint - measure the no-load voltage with your DMM).

Most of those supplies are switchers, but if you have not had a problem 
with RF noise on your FT-817, the KX3 should not introduce any 
additional ones - note that noise conducted onto the DC input is quite 
another issue.  I have not tested my KX3 with other than a clean and 
stiff power supply, but my experiments with DC receivers indicate that 
they do not do well if there is conducted RF energy riding in on the DC 
input.
