Dave, A few questions:
Have you used that USB/Serial converter for other programs. Since you say it won't work with either the K3 Utility or MLDX I wonder if it has worked with anything else. What type of adaptor are you using (Prolific, FTDI, etc.)? Have you installed the appropriate driver? What version of OSX are you using on your mini?
