Yes, Don, an EE INIT is not something one should do "arbitrarily".  It did
fix a similar non-linear RF gain problem of that myself and others reported
on this reflector back in 2010, so I suggested it as a solution.

The process in the owners manual makes clear that a saved configuration is a
very important step if one does not want to undertake a lot of parameter
setting and calibration.

As to running the RF gain calibration, this did not solve the non-linearity
for me, but the EE INIT did.
