Got it - it was worth dragging the desk out from the wall (no small undertaking) so I could change the BNC cable from the K3 to the P3 with an old mil-spec cable from my radar days. With the replacement cable in place, all the ghosts vanished. I have sent an email to support with the information and request for a replacement cable. Thanks to all who replied - the ghost spikes really did bug me, but I was about to give up on it.
