Are you absolutely certain that COM7 is the right serial port for your KX3? Are there others available in the KX3 Utility Port tab list of com ports?
If your KX3 LCD shows a VFO frequency, then the expected response from the KX3 Utility is different than you're seeing. The response you have shown is as if the device is just echoing anything. See KX3 Utility Help, Port tab, "Test Communications". There are three possible responses to the "test communications" button, and if your KX3 has running firmware, it should respond with "KX3 MCU version xx.xx. RS-232 speed 38400 bit/s." I am hesitant to to a hard reset of the KX3 out of concern that I may not be able to reload new firmware if the program and radio aren't correctly communicating. Except for this problem loading firmware, the radio appears to be functioning correctly. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and what actions did you take to correct it?
