I don't think that, if I had a KX1, I would do this! At least, I would remove the batteries after every use.

Just yesterday my maglite stopped working. Opening it, I discovered that an alkaline battery had leaked. It was quite a job to get it out and clean the gunk from the tube. Note that I am very careful not to leave discharged batteries in the flashlight -- it had worked fine the day before. This is the second time in several years that an alkaline battery has done this to me. I don't trust the suckers, and I certainly wouldn't risk something like a KX1.
