Lane,

That "back of the cave" sound can be one of two things.
One is that there is monitor audio reaching your microphone due to either using the speaker or audio leakage from your headphones, The second is that it is simply your perception. There is a very slight delay between your voice and the output of the monitor. If your ears are sensitive enough to pick up that delay, it will sound like an echo in your head.

In other words there may be no problem. I suspect that is the case whether no 1 or no 2 is the cause.
