That's the implication because we as a society have an amazing ability to spin something like this in the worst possible way.

I can think of a few dozen other reasons that aren't as dire.

It's one of the reasons that most amateur radio companies don't have a forum like this, and the owners and employees don't speak publicly. If you don't say something, no one can take it and spin it out of control.
