Hi. This sounds more like the USB<>KX3 cable driver firing up as a Serial port that the updater was not defaulting to. That can happen if there is something else already connected to the computer that provides a "Serial" port for some other reason, before you plug in the KX3 cable. I've never seen the KX3 utility run on an Apple box, but on Windows and Linux, you get a chance to find and specify the serial port to use. 73 Dave G0WBX.
