It's amazing the things you can learn simply by reading the manual.
It's the first thing I do with an new product.

The SPEED/MIC knob should have the LED illuminated showing MIC. When
you turn the knob the VFO B area should show LINE xx where xx is the
value of Line Gain. Normally about 35 or so.
