Unless you have no alternatives, find another ISP. Comcast is not a great

great reviews from those who have it.

All well and good in an ideal situation, but knowing the area that Eric lives in (Silicon Valley) there are all sorts of "alternatives" that may be available but in reality are vendors based on getting service (as it is popularly called "bandwidth") from Comcast and/or Verizon "behind the curtain".

Up here (suburban Portland) I did lots of research on features, service and reliability before settling on the Comcast bundle of internet, voice phone, and Xfinity cable. Living in an already-wired apartment I didn't have much of a choice. I was fortunate enough to talk the management into letting me put up my VHF/UHF j-poles - I didn't want to press my luck by having more wire/cable run in.

I had (where did I put it?) the direct phone number of the regional service manager but fortunately never had to use it. My one and only problem was resolved locally to my satisfaction the first time without "sturm und drang".

In sum - you get what you pay for.
