When you say " Elecraft-supplied heat sink" do you just mean the little heat spreader plate?
The factory provided thermal solution is totally fine unless you want to run high duty cycle modes at full power. I have the proaudio ultimate ( https://proaudioeng.com/pae-kx32-ultimate-heatsink-kit-elecraft-kx3/) on mine and have no complaints.
