To close this thread - it appears I fixed this K3.
After some hints from folks here and looking at the schematic
and N6TV showing me where I could find a part number.
It was D25 - this is a PIN diode on the bottom of the main board.
I ordered a few from Mouser, in case I destroyed one or more installing them.
They are small and inexpensive.
I replaced it last night and the receiver is working.
