No. Do not change any installed RFC's. As the note explains, it's quite possible to break the connections inside the inductor by bending the leads too tightly at right angles to the main body, especially on the smaller sub-miniature units. One wants to be careful about bending the leads on the inductors as the alert explains. But, if you have a broken inductor, you unit will not pass the performance tests (as several builders discovered).
Also, as Elecraft changes to lead-free RoHS-compliant parts they are finding that some of the sub-miniature inductors do not have RoHS equivalents and a slightly larger unit must be used. These parts can be used quite easily, but they require the leads be reformed in a slightly different manner. The alert explains how to do that. Tom, Can you elaborate on the reason for the change? Is it a construction thing or an operational improvement. In other words, if my K2 is happy should I be concerned about replacing the RFC's already installed? thanks Tom WB2QDG k2 1103 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Hammond" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2007 1:11 PM Subject: [Elecraft] NEED TO VISIT THIS LINK (was: Rf chokes too large?) > EVERYONE WHO BUILDS A NEW ELECRAFT KIT SHOULD READ THIS APPLICATION > NOTE!!! > > It deals with the fact that Elecraft appears to have bitten the bullet > and > substituted heavier-duty (and slightly larger) RFCs for many of the > sub-mini RFCs used in their kits.
